Tweak #1 | White Contrast Trick
This one works with almost any sweater — and once you try it, you’ll do it on repeat.
Simply layer a white tank or tee underneath and watch what happens. You get an instant pop of contrast, and white close to your face — especially under a darker sweater — brightens your face. It’s the simplest way to make any outfit look more polished and thoughtful (without trying too hard).
I absolutely LOVE this easy go-to outfit above. I’m wearing a gorgeous thin, lightweight cotton-cashmere sweater (perfect spring sweater) in heather brown, a timeless, classic pair of tapered straight-leg jeans in a dark wash, and a pair of comfy ankle booties—which could easily be swapped out for chic sneakers instead. The outfit is simple and extremely affordable! The sweater is only $29, the jeans are only $50 AND they’re both amazing quality.
The white ribbed tank underneath does all the heavy lifting — zero bulk, maximum impact.

Tweak #2 | The Waist-Slimming Tuck
This one isn’t new — but I’ve put a new twist on it, and the difference is remarkable.
The classic half-tuck has been in my styling toolkit for years, and it’s not going anywhere. No matter what the fashion police say. If it makes you feel better, wear it with confidence — you have my full permission to ignore anyone who tells you otherwise.
Here’s what I want you to notice: when you tuck only the center of your top in and leave the sides out along your waist/hips. That triangle shape is everything. It visually color-blocks your waist— literally whittling inches off the waist. Just look at the before and after above. Same outfit, one small adjustment, completely different effect.
Watch this video to see exactly how it’s done. Once you see it, you can’t unsee it.

Tweak #3 | Scarf as a Belt
It’s hard to keep up with trends, right? The good news is you don’t have to. You can simply follow the 80/20 rule with your closet, 80% staples, 20% fun. Accessory trends are a great, low-risk way to add excitement to your outfits! They’re affordable, simple to try, and really do add so much to even the simplest of looks.
The first low-risk trend that I’m loving this season is the scarf as a belt trend. It’s SO simple. Start with a neutral base (white tee or button down + jeans for example) and grab a square scarf that you really like. You’ll want an oversized square shape (at least 34″x 34″) for this one. Fold it into a triangle, and tie it around your waist. Done. I’ve played around with the placement and really like it multiple ways. Sometimes I keep my top tucked in, in the image above I actually pulled it out and bloused the shirt slightly over the scarf. You might go with the scarf in your belt loops, tied in the front, tied in the back, ends tucked under the scarf… there’s so many options here, just play around!

Tweak #4 | The Asymmetrical Layer
Another low-risk trend upgrade is the asymmetrical camisole. It’s been around for a little over a year in street style and now we’re seeing it pop up everywhere. This is likely not something you have already, but it’s a low-cost investment, if you’re drawn to it.
It’s simply a silky camisole that has an asymmetrical hemline. Super sexy worn on its own, and classy worn with an oversized blazer or leather jacket. And if you don’t love the asymmetrical hem, just go for a regular silk camisole instead! A lace trimmed cami under a silky button down adds a subtle sexy element to your look – similar to the white contrast trick we talked about earlier!

Tweak #5 | The Elegant Shoulder Drape
Last, but certainly not least is an alternative, elegant way to drape a sweater over your shoulders. I saw this online a few months ago and tried it with a super thick, chunky striped sweater and loved it. This trick works with any level of thickness, and is 1,000 times better than tying your sleeves in a knot at your chest. (Who wants that kind of bulk?)
So here’s how you do it…drape the sweater over your shoulders behind you, take the left arm and tuck it under the sweater on your right shoulder, then take the right arm and loop it over or under the semi-circle you just created with the other sleeve.
It sounds complicated, but just watch this video and you’ll see just how simple and elegant it is. Give it a try for yourself, and you’ll be a pro in no time. I’m not sure about you, but I geek out over a new style tweak like this one.
