Once Again, the US Open Has the Most Covetable Merch in Sports
There are millions of people on the planet who enjoy watching a little yellow ball get whacked back and forth for hours on end. To them I say: Sincerely, good on ya! For the rest of us, however, what happens on the tennis court is very much secondary to the overall vibe surrounding the thing.
From Andre Agassi’s infamous Nike-jorts-and-mullet combo to cable-knit sweater vests to the US Open hats that become ubiquitous in NYC every August, the popularity of tennis swag proves you don’t need to know what ATP stands for to appreciate the game’s eminently bite-able style.
This week, as the 2025 US Open kicks off, you can get your dose of tennis vibes in more flavors than ever thanks to a bunch of killer tennis-inspired drops from across the menswear spectrum. Whether or not you’ll be making the trek out to Flushing Meadows, here are the ones most worth copping.
US Open
Let’s start with the obvious: The tourney’s official merch store is brimming with good stuff this year. There are the aforementioned caps in a wide array of colors, of course, but there are also a handful of sick graphic tees—which feel like a nod to the vintage specimens that regularly sell for hundreds on eBay—as well as some seriously spacious totes crafted from sturdy waxed canvas.
Polo Ralph Lauren
It should come as little surprise, given the brand’s longstanding lock on all things old-money style, that Ralph Lauren has been the official outfitter of the US Open for the last two decades. This means providing uniforms for umpires and the ball crew (you know, those fleet-footed youngsters who scoop up tennis balls between rallies) as well as dropping an extensive collection of US Open-branded merch. Ranging from classic standbys (polos, visors, cabled sweaters) to a few wild cards (boxer briefs, belt bags), the color-blocked theme gives it a distinctly ’80s feel.
Palmes x ATP
Copenhagen’s Palmes is one of a handful of upstarts making tennis gear for the cool kids. Among the most unexpected drops of the 2025 season is the ATP + Palmes Tennis Collaboration, a capsule of tees, hats, and totes produced with the Association of Tennis Professionals (the global governing body for men’s tennis). If you’re looking for a decidedly more IYKYK alternative to the ubiquitous US Open dad hat, this ought to do the trick.
Y-3
There won’t be an official US Open champ for a couple of weeks, but there’s a clear winner in competition for Swaggiest New Tennis Collection, thanks to this 18-piece capsule from Yohji Yamamoto and Adidas. In line with the creative direction of the Y-3 fall-winter 2025 collection, the drop features tees emblazoned with motifs inspired by Japanese suibokuga ink-wash painting and fossilized amber. There are sneakers, too, of course, including Yohji-fied riffs on the Adizero Ubersonic, Barricade, and Cybersonic.
Nike
The Swoosh has its standard array of court-ready gear on offer, of course, but we were most taken by these two retro-leaning graphic tees celebrating the game’s current top men’s players: Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, who between them have captured eight of the past nine Grand Slam titles. Showing support for your favorite tennis player through merch isn’t always the easiest, so these actually-good shirts were a welcome surprise.
Vuori
This SoCal athleisure brand makes clothes “inspired by the active Coastal California lifestyle,” so the introduction of a new tennis collection isn’t a major pivot. What is new, however, is the co-sign of British tennis phenom Jack Draper, who will be wearing Vuori at this year’s US Open. Given Draper’s recent hot streak (after winning his first Masters title in March, he’s currently ranked No. 5 in the world), there will be a lot of eyes on his Vuori-branded tank tops this week.
