David Beckham Was Knighted in a Victoria Beckham Suit
So, what does that look like in menswear form? For Beckham, it’s a step away from a standard suit into classic morning dress (getting knighted is a pretty big deal). The lapels were slightly fanged out, the pleats were subtle, and there was a small Albert chain to a fitted (but not too fitted) waistcoat. Morning dress is a code rooted in old-school, English high society, but under Victoria Beckham’s steer, it doesn’t look so stuffy. (At least he doesn’t look like an undertaker.)
If you’re a Beckham aficionado, This whole fit might give you a little déjà vu. Beckham has been in a morning suit before—in the same location, with his wife—for Prince Harry’s wedding reception in 2018, when Becks turned up in a kit designed by Kim Jones for Dior. Back then, the look was much more pared back; a bit less capital-F Fashion than we would expect from one of the biggest French luxury brands in the world, and more tailored to the Royal Family’s invitation.
Nevertheless, a big congratulations to David Beckham for getting some aristocratic recognition. But also—big up Victoria, too? The first brick of a new menswear empire may have just been laid.
