Sneakers Are the Real MVP of Your Wardrobe—Here Are 3 Cool, New Trends for Spring

Sneakers continue to be the hardest-working shoes in our wardrobes—and I, for one, am breathing a sigh of relief that, thankfully, they’re still on trend for spring 2026. (Especially since I still can’t wear heels post-bunion surgery!)

We’ve come a long way from basic running shoes or cross trainers. Now, there are so many beautiful styles to choose from—in nearly every color. The right pair of sneakers can actually enhance your outfit while still keeping your feet happy.

This season brings a wave of wearable, versatile sneaker trends—from slim retro profiles to rich textures like suede and shearling, even styles that look more like your favorite flats.

If you’re ready for a sneaker refresh, keep scrolling for three standout styles to try this spring!

Huge thank you to Nordstrom for sponsoring this post. I only partner with brands and businesses that I love.

coolest sneakers of the season

TREND #1 – SLIM SNEAKERS

We’re starting strong with one of the biggest sneaker trends of the season: slim profile sneaks. Inspired by retro runners but with a more streamlined shape, these styles have a lower, sleeker profile that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly modern.

There are two pairs of slim profile sneakers I just invested in and I think you are going to absolutely love both. First up, the Veronica Beard Riviera Mesh Sneakers. These are so perfect for spring into summer because they are lightweight, slip-on (no lacing up needed), and they have mesh panels so you can easily wear them without socks and be comfortable. I love this color too. It’s called, “bark.”

These run true to size, but narrow. I do not suggest trying these if you have wider feet.

Another slim profile pair I just picked up—and am absolutely in love with—is the Chloé Kick Low Top Sneakers. Chloé is seriously crushing it this season! (Be sure to check out their new bags too like this oneso good.) These sneakers are white with camel edging—neutral and versatile, but with just the right amount of pop. I plan to pair them with everything from jeans to skirts, dresses, and joggers.

If you don’t love the brown tones, these sneakers also come in white! And, I kind of love the mule version too.

Fashion insiders are pointing to Miu Miu as the “it” sneakers of the moment. And while I love being in the know, sometimes when something gets too buzzy, I instinctively want to go the other direction. I’m sharing that so you can decide what works best for your personal style.

You don’t have to spend a ton to try this trend, take a look at this cool white pair by Puma.

TREND #2 – BALLETCORE SNEAKERS

This is one of the freshest sneaker styles on the scene—essentially a more supportive, sneaker-like version of the classic ballet flat. Think slim, rounded shapes, minimal soles, and sometimes even strap details that give off a Mary Jane feel. They’re feminine, lightweight, and super easy to wear.

If you’ve always loved the look of ballet flats but needed more comfort and support—this is your trend. These sneakers offer that same delicate feel, but with a cushioned sole and a bit more structure, so you can actually wear them all day.

I ordered and tried on a couple of pairs by Puma, but found them too wide. That doesn’t mean I’ve given up the hunt, though. I am eyeballing this pair by P448 that leans more towards ballet flat, but they have sneaker soles! If you get them and they’re awesome, please share…

BTW, the white sweater I’m wearing above is so elegant and perfect with slimmer leggings or fitted pants as it’s longer – SO hard to find! And, the brown suede hobo is a standout you’ll want to carry every single day.

TREND #3 – BROWN SUEDE SNEAKERS

If you’re looking for a sneaker that feels rich, elevated, and is also incredibly versatile, try a pair of brown suede sneaks. From deep chocolate to soft taupe, these earthy tones add warmth and sophistication to any outfit—and suede brings in that soft, luxe texture that makes your look feel instantly more styled.

One pair I have and love is the VB Valentina Sneaker in Espresso. Not only is the color stunning, but the platform sole gives a subtle lift—perfect if you’re petite or just want a little extra height without reaching for heels.

For a more low-profile option (combining two trends!), the VB Riviera Mesh Sneaker is another gorgeous brown suede pick. It has that retro-slim silhouette we talked about earlier.

I linked several options for less below.

a step ahead

Sure, there are other sneaker trends floating around—loafer-inspired sneakers (yes, I said loafers) and high-tops are having a moment too. But I wanted to keep this roundup focused on the styles that feel truly wearable, versatile, and worth the investment.

These are the sneakers you’ll actually reach for again and again—the ones that elevate your outfits without sacrificing comfort. And that, in my opinion, is always in style.
