CAA Signs Filmmaker, Actress & Writer Greta Gerwig As She Follows ‘Barbie’ With ‘Narnia’


EXCLUSIVE: CAA has signed Greta Gerwig, the actress-turned-blockbuster filmmaker who will follow Barbie with Narnia. Latter is the C.S. Lewis novels adaptation that stars Daniel Craig, Carey Mulligan, Emma Mackey and Meryl Streep as the voice of the lion Aslan. Netflix releases the film in IMAX theaters on November 26 and it will be globally released on Netflix Christmas Day. Gerwig wrote the script.

Barbie, which grossed north of $1.4 billion worldwide and garnered eight Oscar noms including Best Picture, with a win for Original Song. That film was half of the Barbenheimer summer that really helped bring the theatrical film business back from Covid along with Oppenheimer. She has emerged as one of the brightest hyphenates in the game.

Gerwig had been repped by UTA.

She made her directorial debut in 2017 with Lady Bird, getting Oscar noms for Directing and Original Screenplay, and then wrote and directed an adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women that got six Oscar noms including Best Picture and Gerwig for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Gerwig began as an actress whose early films included Hanna Takes The Stairs (which she co-wrote) and Nights and Weekends. She co-directed, co-wrote, and co-produced that film and her breakout came opposite Ben Stiller in the Noah Baumbach-directed Greenberg. She later co-wrote and starred in the critically acclaimed Frances Ha, getting a Golden Globe nom for Best Actress – Comedy or Musical, and Mistress America. Her other performance work includes starring in Pablo Larrain’s Jackie and 20th Century Women for Mike Mills.
