‘Fatherland’: Pawel Pawlikowski’s Cannes Film Unveils First Image

Here is first look image of Fatherland, Paweł Pawlikowski’s latest feature that is heading to Cannes.

In the image, stars Sandra Hüller and Hanns Zischler can be seen looking stoic as they prepare to embark on a journey.

Fatherland centers on the relationship between the Nobel Prize-winning writer Thomas Mann (Zischler) and his daughter Erika (Hüller) – actress, writer and rally driver. Set at the height of the Cold War, father and daughter embark on a challenging and emotional road trip in a black Buick taking them across a Germany in ruins – from U.S. dominated Frankfurt to Soviet controlled Weimar.

The film sees Pawlikowski reunite with his longtime filmmaking team, which includes Lukasz Zal, Aleksandra Staszko, Katarzyna Sobańska and Marcel Sławiński. The Match Factory is handling international sales. Mubi holds rights in North America, Latin America, the UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Benelux, Italy, Spain, Turkey, Australia, New Zealand, and India.

Fatherland has just been selected to compete for the Palme d’Or alongside the likes of Ira Sachs’ The Man I Love, Lazlo Nemes’ Moulin and Hirokazu Kore-eda’s Sheep in the Box.
