Wales Bonner and Yohji Yamamoto Teamed Up on a Must-Have Adidas Sneaker
Grace Wales Bonner and Yohji Yamamoto are each known for their very good Adidas sneakers. So what do you get when both designers team up for the Wales Bonner x Adidas Y-3 Field Lizzard? A very, very good sneaker, of course.
The three-way collab was first teased on the runway at Paris Fashion Week last June. Now, after nearly a year of waiting, official pics of the kicks have finally surfaced, and it’s safe to say that sneakerheads are pretty gassed.
The original Field model dropped back in 2003 as part of Y-3’s debut collection. More than two decades later, it’s back as the Field Lizzard—a low-profile silhouette that pulls heavily from Adidas’s soccer roots without feeling like a straight-up retro cleat revival. The sole is thin and flat. The shape is slick. And while it’s obviously inspired by the pitch, it looks more like something you’d wear front row at a fashion show.
That’s because the upper has now been updated with dark brown leather and a faux lizard texture—a move borrowed from Wales Bonner’s other Adi trainers. There’s also some intricate stitching on the tongue, heel badge, and insole, and all of this comes packed in a special edition box that was made exclusively for this shoe.
