Sly Stone, the front man of the legendary funk band Sly and the Family Stone, has died at the age of 82. His cause of death was the chronic lung disease known as COPD.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved dad, Sly Stone of Sly and the Family Stone. Sly passed away peacefully, surrounded by his three children, his closest friend, and his extended family. While we mourn his absence, we take solace in knowing that his extraordinary musical legacy will continue to resonate and inspire for generations to come,” his family said in a statement, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Sly and the Family Stone formed in 1966 in San Francisco, Calif., and are known for their critically-acclaimed tracks such as “Dance to the Music,” “Everyday People,” and “Stand.”
