“He’s Running the Show”: ‘Brave New World’ Writer Teases Captain America’s Future in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Captain America: Brave New World arrives at a time in MCU where the OG Avengers are dearly missed, “a bit of a low point,” to quote Deadpool. But that’s no measure to Sam Wilson aka new Cap’s (Anthony Mackie) leading abilities after all he’s been there right from the start. The character will return in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, and he’ll be “running the show.”

After Sam Wilson got the shield handed over by Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) in Avengers: Endgame, it took him some time to completely take over the mantle as we saw in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. He came in his full Captain America avatar in the latest entry Brave New World. Writer of the feature Rob Edwards recently speculated where Sam Wilson’s story will take him next. “He’s Captain America now, so arguably, he’s running the show. I think that’s the next step,” the writer teases. He further added,

“I’m just guessing as a fan, but I think that’s where you go with Doomsday. You recreate the Avengers as was suggested in the movie. I’m on for the ride now. I can’t wait for the next one.”

Captain America: Brave New World is a Fresh Start for the Franchise

After Evans led The First Avenger, Winter Soldier, and Civil War, the latest film in the franchise, Brave New World, took fans back to the gritty appeal of the original films. Given that Mackie’s feature is leading him to Avengers: Doomsday, it’s a big step from the original movies that mainly focused on the characters. Along with Mackie the movie also starred a slew of talents including Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres aka new Falcon, Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, Xosha Roquemore as Leila Taylor, Giancarlo Esposito as Sidewinder, along with familiar faces like Liv Tyler as Betty Ross, Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns, while Harrison Ford replaced late actor William Hurt as Thaddeus Ross aka Red Hulk.

Fans had a mixed response to the film given the lack of a central narrative in the MCU as it garnered a 48 percent Rotten Tomatoes score from the critics, which is trumped by the audience score of 79 percent. The movie grossed $ 413.7 million at the box office which is low considering other Marvel entries.

Captain America: Brave New World is yet to announce a streaming date. Stay tuned to Collider for more such updates and check out Edwards’ comments above.
