Dakota Johnson Is Cornered in a Sexy Love Triangle in New ‘Materialists’ Image [Exclusive]

Between his recurring role in The Last of Us and his looming MCU debut in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, 2025 is truly the year of Pedro Pascal. However, the new Reed Richards has another project coming this summer with two other Marvel stars. Pascal will star alongside Chris Evans and Dakota Johnson in Materialists, the upcoming feel-good romantic comedy coming to theaters on June 13. Collider is happy to partner with A24 to debut an exclusive image of Johnson in the film, which was written and directed by Celine Song. Materialists follows a matchmaker (Johnson) and her lucrative business that gets complicated when she finds herself in the middle of a poisonous love triangle that threatens to bring down her and her clients.

Writer/director Celine Song previously made both her big screen writing and directorial debut on Past Lives, the 2023 Oscar-nominated drama led by Greta Lee that also stars Teo Yoo and John Magaro. Before her work on Past Lives, Song worked as a Staff Writer on the first season of The Wheel of Time, the Prime Video original series in the middle of its third season. There has been no word on the next project for Song, but Past Lives certainly put her on the map, and audiences are eager for this follow-up. Although the film didn’t take home any gold from the 2024 Oscars, Past Lives still won more than 50 awards from 98 nominations across various film academies and associations. It also served as a breakout of sorts for leading actress Greta Lee, who previously featured mostly in small supporting roles and was recently featured in a stand-out episode of The Studio with Seth Rogen.

The Stars of ‘Materialists’ Have Been Busy Lately

In addition to Pedro Pascal, who also closed out 2024 with performances in The Wild Robot and Gladiator II, both of his Materialists co-stars, Dakota Johnson and Chris Evans, have also been working hard lately. Johnson made her Marvel debut last year in the critically panned Madame Web movie, which kicked off what went on to be a disappointing year for Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. She’ll next star in the comedy Splitsville opposite Adria Ajorna and Nicholas Braun. Chris Evans returned to the big screen with Red One, the Christmas action flick led by Dwayne Johnson, which came not long after he returned to his original Marvel role of Johnny Storm in Deadpool & Wolverine. He’s also attached to star opposite Aubrey Plaza and Margaret Qualley in Honey Don’t!.
