Will asked Gary how much say he had in the writer’s room when it came to scripts with his name on it, asking if he ever tried to have the episode changed back to his original draft. Gary explained: “I certainly know the shoving scene really bothered me, I don’t recall if I expressed that or not. I might have, [but] I certainly held myself back when I wanted to express myself.”

“It wasn’t my show; I’ve been a showrunner, so I know both sides of it,” he noted. “I know all the pressures you get from executives and studios and all that stuff. However, it bothered me… Obviously, it didn’t bother anybody else enough because it stayed in, sometimes I wonder: ‘Why wasn’t there a network note about that? Why was that condoned?’”
