Denzel Washington Says He Doesn't Care About Cancel Culture: 'Who Cares?'

Denzel Washington is making it clear that he is not worried about cancel culture.

The 70-year-old Oscar winner was asked about the concept during an interview with Complex News while promoting his new film Highest 2 Lowest with director Spike Lee.

“What does that mean — to be canceled?” Denzel asked the interviewer. After she explained that it means losing public support, he replied, “Who cares?”

“What made public support so important to begin with?” he continued.

When the journalist said that “followers now are currency,” he doubled down.

“I don’t care who’s following who. You can’t lead and follow at the same time, and you can’t follow and lead at the same time. I don’t follow anybody. I follow the heavenly spirit. I follow God, I don’t follow man. I have faith in God. I have hope in man, but look around, it ain’t working out so well.”

He added, “You can’t be canceled if you haven’t signed up. Don’t sign up.”

Denzel laughed and joked to Spike, “Don’t get me started. You know, chest is getting tight talking about it.” Spike added, “I could care less.”

Taraji P. Henson praised Denzel after seeing the clip, writing on Instagram, “HE BETTER PREACH!!!! Humans don’t have that kind of power over my ordained life. #GODIS #MANAINTIT Have a blessed day.”

Denzel also recently said he is not concerned about awards either. “I don’t do it for Oscars. I really don’t care about that kind of stuff,” he said on Jake’s Takes. Find out what else he said.
