“” exec producer Theresa Coffino is exiting the syndicated entertainment news strip after 26 years, she told staffers on Tuesday. Coffino runs day-to-day operations on the show, which is produced by Warner Bros. Unscripted Television in association with Telepictures Productions and distributed by Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution.
Fellow exec producer Jeremy Spiegel, who serves as showrunner, will remain at the helm of “Extra” as it returns for Season 32 in fall 2025.
“After 26 years at ‘Extra,’ I’m moving on from my role as executive producer at the show to pursue my passion for producing true crime documentaries,” Coffino said in a statement. “I’m proud to have led this incredible team with great partners, and contributed to a show that’s meant so much to so many. We’ve built such a wonderful family here and I’m deeply grateful to have worked alongside some of the best people in the business.”
Coffino has served as EP of “Extra” since 2002; before that she was co-exec producer and supervising producer. At “Extra,” she helped evolve the show away from tabloid stories back to entertainment news, bringing “Extra” to the red carpet and orchestrating interviews with names like Tom Cruise and Julia Roberts. She originated the show’s social media strategy and helped the show win the first Daytime Emmy for entertainment news in 2014. Also, she served as an executive producer on “Trapped: What Is Happening to Wendy Williams?” for sister cabler Investigation Discovery.
Coffino’s credits also include ten years with Paramount’s syndication division, working on TV newsmagazines including “Hard Copy” — where she covered the trials of Michael Jackson and O.J. Simpson, as well as Princess Diana’s divorce and death, andthe Monica Lewinsky scandal.
Earlier in her career, she worked on Lifetime’s “Attitudes” and the syndicated “A Current Affair,” as well as helped originate WNYW-TV’s “Good Day New York,” which became the template for local morning news shows on Fox-owned stations throughout the country.
“Theresa’s contributions over her 26 years have been immeasurable,” said Lauren Blincoe, the senior VP of current programming at Telepictures. “A true force in the television industry, she has been instrumental in shaping Extra into the iconic entertainment news brand it is today. We are deeply grateful to Theresa for her dedication, vision, and award-winning work. As she embarks on her next chapter, we wish her nothing but continued success.”
