‘Him’ Trailer: Marlon Wayans And Tyriq Withers Hike Up The Horror In First Teaser For Monkeypaw’s Latest Play

Universal on Friday dropped the teaser trailer for Him, the sports horror film that marks the latest from Jordan Peele and his Monkeypaw Productions. The pic is set for a September 19 release, just as the NFL season gets underway.

Tyriq Withers and Marlon Wayans star in the story of promising pro quarterback prospect Cameron Cade, who begins training for the upcoming NFL Combine by teaming with his hero Isaiah White, a legendary QB and cultural icon, at the latter’s isolated compound.

Cameron quickly discovers through that his lifelong devotion to the sport is not nearly enough to get to the top, and Isaiah sends his protégé down a dark, disorienting rabbit hole that may cost him more than he ever thought.

The trailer features Wayans’ voice-over imploring Cameron to tell him how much he wants to be the best (““Do you want this? What are you willing to sacrifice?”), devolving from increasingly insane workouts to satanic-looking images of goats and people drenched in blood. The message is clear: being the best takes way more than a just throwing up a good 40 time and having a solid bench press showing like at the actual NFL tryout day.

Julia Fox, Tim Heidecker, comic Jim Jeffries, MMA fighter Maurice Green and rappers Guapdad 4000 and Tierra Whack also star in the pic, which Withers and Wayans showed off earlier this month at CinemaCon.

Justin Tipping directed the Black List screenplay by Zack Akers & Skip Bronkie and Tipping. Monkeypaw’s Ian Cooper, Peele, Win Rosenfeld and Jamal M. Watson are producing, and David Kern and Monkeypaw’s Kate Oh are executive producers.
