If you’re like me and you’ve always admired that effortlessly elegant summer style—the kind that looks polished without ever feeling overdone—you’re in the right place!
One of this season’s biggest viral trends, East Coast Summer, is rooted in refined minimalism, classic staples, and timeless pieces that don’t shout—they whisper. Think: Carolyn Bessette at the beach.
But what does “East Coast Summer” actually mean?
It’s not about the entire coastline. This aesthetic draws from a few iconic spots—Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, Hyannis Port, and the more understated corners of the Hamptons. Picture shingled summer homes, yacht clubs, crisp whites, striped tops, woven textures… and absolutely no logos.
It’s more of a mood than a map.
It’s not flashy. It’s not overly trendy. It’s about building a wardrobe of beautiful, elevated basics that feel timeless and effortless.
And the best part? You don’t need a yacht—or a trip to New England—to pull it off! 😉
Keep scrolling for five simple, foolproof style tips to help you bring this classic coastal aesthetic to life.

1. Neutral Palette
Black, white, navy, tan, and white are the foundation shades of the East Coast Summer wardrobe. These timeless tones feel elevated, versatile, and effortless—exactly the kind of understated elegance Carolyn was known for.
In the look above, I went head-to-toe black and white—a color pairing that always works and feels chic no matter the setting. The FRAME Le Slim Palazzo jeans are a favorite for a reason: the leg-lengthening silhouette is ultra-flattering. If you’re petite, pair them with heels (like I did here); if you’re taller, a sleek flat or espadrille works perfectly.
I styled the jeans with a striped Veronica Beard polo for a nod to nautical with a preppy twist. It’s polished, it’s easy, and it’s the kind of outfit you could wear to lunch in Martha’s Vineyard and look right at home.
Pro tip: When in doubt, anchor your look in black and white—it always reads elevated.

2. Select Stripes
Nothing channels East Coast summer style quite like stripes. Whether it’s a top, a tote, or a pair of espadrilles, a classic stripe adds just the right amount of visual interest while keeping things timeless.
📸 For the look above, I chose a black-and-white striped polo by Veronica Beard. It’s comfortable and soft and adds impact without overwhelming the look.
Black and white stripes are especially versatile and pair beautifully with white denim, tailored shorts, or even capri pants (Yes, they’re baacck!) I’ve linked a few of my favorite striped staples below.
If you’re unsure where to start, begin with a simple striped tee or knit—a piece you’ll have and wear for years to come.

3. No Logos
When I looked through photos of Carolyn Bessette, one thing stood out immediately: not a single visible logo. She was the queen of quiet luxury. Her looks were simple, subtle, elegant and timeless.
I did include a small nod to Carolyn’s signature scarf moment by tying a graphic printed scarf (by Prada) in my hair—but the branding is barely noticeable, and that’s the point.
Bottom line: If you want to channel this look, skip the logos. Instead, focus on quality, structure, and silhouette.

4. Espadrilles
The espadrille is the unsung hero of East Coast chic—comfortable, chic and classic. Whether it’s a wedge, flat or slingback, they add subtle polish.
I’m wearing a pair of closed-toe, black, Castañer espadrilles. The closed toe is not required but definitely adds refinement to the look. These wedges add height without sacrificing comfort.
Neutral espadrilles like black, beige or metallic are your summer capsule MVP. You will wear them with everything.

5. Add Simple, Thoughtful Accessories
Understated doesn’t mean boring. The right accessory—carefully chosen—can shift an entire outfit’s energy without stealing the show.
For this look, I added a printed triangle scarf (Carolyn’s signature!)—a subtle nod to her iconic headwear moment. I also reached for small oval sunglasses and the STAUD beaded shoulder bag. These accessories elevate the look with minimal effort.
Straw hats, structured bags, delicate jewelry, and sleek (small-ish) sunglasses are all East Coast Summer staples. Just remember: every piece should be simple, yet impactful. Think less statement, more sophistication.

💫 Old Money, New Mood: The Carolyn Bessette Code
Less is more. Think quiet luxury, less = more sophistication
Stay natural and neutral. Minimal makeup, undone hair, glowy skin. Neutral colors. Understated, but impactful accessories.
Choose Classics. Ask yourself: Will I wear this next summer? Five summers from now?
You don’t need a Kennedy last name—or a plane ticket to the Vineyard—to master this look.
Just timeless, well-made pieces… and the confidence to wear them with ease.
If you take one thing away from this trend, let it be this: elegance doesn’t need to be loud to be powerful.
