Jack Haven & Janeane Garofalo Teaming On Dark Comedic Thriller ‘Grind’

EXCLUSIVE: Jack Haven (I Saw the TV Glow) and actress/comedian Janeane Garofalo (Wet Hot American Summer) are set to star in Grind, a darkly comedic thriller from filmmaker Peter Collins Campbell that shoots in New York City in October.

In the indie, Haven plays Ricky, a hustle-culture-obsessed Manhattan food delivery biker on a mad dash to make all of his rent in one night. No word on the role to be played by Garofalo.

Supported by Cinereach, Grind will be produced by Bethany McHugh for Affects Next Day’s Work, with Philipp Engelhorn serving as executive producer. Allison Estrin is casting the project.

In a statement on Haven’s casting, Campbell told Deadline, “Jack is the kind of chameleonic actor that you don’t see very often anymore, and having them anchor this film and go up against actors like Janeane who have such commanding, magnetic presence is going to be so much fun to watch. I think what we’re seeing in the movies right now is an appetite for something really different, and audiences are ready for stuff that’s weirder, funnier, and more creatively ambitious than what they’re being given- it’s the only way to make sense of the world right now.”

Coming off of Gotham and Independent Spirit Award nominations for their starring turn in Jane Schoenbrun’s acclaimed A24 pic I Saw the TV Glow, Haven is otherwise best known for the role of Casey Gardner in the Netflix series Atypical. They can also be seen in Gabriel Abrantes’ surrealist horror film Amelia’s Children and took their directorial debut October Crow to The Uncanny Film Festival in Cannes earlier this year. They are repped by Gersh and Fusion Entertainment.

Known for her work in projects like Wet Hot American Summer, The Truth About Cats and Dogs, Ratatouille and Reality Bites, Garofolo has recently been seen on shows like Younger and Billions. Other recent credits include Patrick Wang’s A Bread Factory and a lead role in Dan Harris’ Speech and Debate opposite Sarah Steele, Liam James, and Roger Bart. She is repped by Gersh, Independent Artists Media, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller.

Beginning his career directing music videos in Chicago, Campbell has screened shorts at over 40 festivals and released his debut feature, Dimland, in 2021.
