John F. Kennedy Jr. is a first-ballot Moodboard Hall-of-Famer. Twenty-five years after his tragic death, we still fawn over John-John’s laidback, preppy style: he looked great whether he was in workout gear, a double-breasted suit, or ripping through Manhattan on his beloved bike. And his sartorial excellence wouldn’t be complete without a watch. While JFK Jr. is known for wearing Rolexes and once swapped a “Paul Newman” Daytona for a camera lens, those weren’t the only timepieces he wore.
In April 2023, Brynn Wallner, better known as the watch writer @Dimepiece, discovered a photo of John-John wearing a burly watch while she looked for interesting photos to share on her Instagram. “I was like, ‘Oh my God, what’s that sports watch he’s wearing?’” Wallner recalls thinking. She sent the image to the vintage dealer Alan Bedwell, who saw much more potential in what would have, admittedly, been a photo that put up quadruple-digit likes on Instagram. “He was like, ‘Oh my God, that’s a Timex. Don’t post that image. Gatekeep it.’”

Bedwell’s instincts led to a collaboration with Timex, and the very first collaborative watch ever for Dimepiece. This is gatekeeping done correctly. Bedwell and Wallner sent the photo to Timex’s team, who were eager to revive JFK Jr.’s Timex Intrepid with the pair’s help. The brand started with a straight reissue and the 46-mm size—massive but appropriate for the ‘90s— sold out nearly immediately upon its release late last month. Today, Timex is releasing Wallner’s redesign of the watch ($235) that includes a few nods to Dimepiece and more modern sizing.
