Katja Mia celebrates traditional Burundi Dowry day with Daragh Curran
Katja Mia and her fiancé, Daragh Curran headed to Burundi before their wedding day.
Katja had previously explained how they would be celebrating their engagement with traditional ceremonies with her family.
And this week they were able to mark the occasion with a beautiful Traditional Dowry Day.
Katja shared pictures of the Gukwa ceremony.
The Six O’Clock Show host looked beautiful in a traditional blue and silver dress, while Daragh looked dapper in a suit.
“My Gukwa / Traditional Dowry Day 06.09.25,” she wrote.
“It’s a day that is forever stamped in my memory and in my heart. To honour my culture, ancestors and family in this way was the highest privilege and to share it with my better half, his family and our friends from Ireland was everything!
“Thank you to our event decorator Bella @bellegenciaevents and her team who created this magical setting. You are perfection!”
She was met with comments from her pals, including her Virgin Media co-host Brian Dowling, who gushed: “This is BEAUTIFUL.”

“Oh my GOD!!!! Wow wow wow!!! BEAUTIFUL,” Terrie McEvoy commented.
While Paula MacSweeney said: “Oh wow, this is spectacular! You look so beautiful Katja.”
Katja previously told VIP Magazine: “We’re essentially planning like two massive ceremonies, because next week I am flying to Burundi because I have a traditional engagement. Obviously my whole background is Burundi, and when someone gets married, they have to be officially introduced to my clan of 300.
“Daragh has never been to that side of the world. So it’s going to be tribal, traditional, amazing. That’s kind of been the main thing we’ve been planning so far. That will be done in September, and we have an amazing wedding planner for next year, we’re getting married abroad!”
We can’t wait to see what else she has planned.
