Katja Mia to step into 2FM role

Katja Mia

Katja Mia is a busy woman.

She has been entertaining the country Monday to Friday on Virgin Media on The Six O’Clock Show.

She’s planning her wedding to her partner, Daragh Curran.

And now she is set to join 2FM in an exciting new move.

Katja Mia

Katja will be stepping into Bláthnaid Treacy’s weekend slot for six months while Bláthnaid is on maternity leave.

Katja will present 9am to 12 noon on Saturdays and Sundays.

This is her first time on radio and we’re excited for her to take the wheel.

With big prizes, great tunes, the What’s Wrong With Ye Quiz and the fabulous Pamper Hamper Katja will be bringing it all to listeners.

Speaking about the role, Katja said: “I’m absolutely buzzing to be making my radio debut on the RTÉ 2FM airways. I’m honoured to be asked to keep Bláthnaid’s seat warm while she’s away! It’s always been a dream of mine to work on radio and this opportunity has come at a perfect time in my career where I feel I’ve built up a great amount of presenting experience through TV.

I’m aware that I have massive boots to fill and that any new role comes with some learning curves, but I can assure 2FM listeners that we’ll have an absolute blast along the way. I’m looking forward to meeting the team and we’ll do our very best to continue to bring an extra bit of sparkle and fun to your Saturday and Sunday mornings!”

Dan Healy,  Head of RTÉ 2FM, added: “Katja is one of the new seriously talented Irish stars and we’re thrilled to announce that Katja will be on air on 2FM for the next six months covering Bláthnaid Treacy’s leave. We wish Bláthnaid and her family all the best as they eagerly await their new arrival.

Saturday and Sunday mornings are hugely important to 2FM and I’m certain that Katja will bring her own unique style and energy to the show which will maintain the standards that Bláthnaid has created with the 2FM team in that slot.”

The good news comes after Demi Isaac and Mikey O’Reilly stepped into the hotseat five days a week replacing Doireann Garrihy during her maternity leave.

Blathnaid Treacy

Demi and Mikey joined 2FM earlier this year as part of the expressions of interest recruitment process and have been presenting the 12 – 3pm slot on weekends since March.

Helen Galgey and Benny Bracken moved from the earlier weekend time slot of 7am – 9am to cover Demi and Mikey’s slot from 12 noon – 3pm.

Hugh Carr is now presenting Weekend Breakfast from 7am to 9am and The Chart Show on Friday evening from 7pm to 9pm, while Bláthnaid Treacy is on maternity leave.

A lot of changes!
