Machine Gun Kelly is gearing up to switch genres again.
The 35-year-old musician started his career as a rapper before shifting into pop punk. Now, he says that he’s getting ready to switch back to rap – and he has big plans for his rap career.
MGK spoke to Complex recently about why he thinks that his rap album will be his “greatest” one yet. The singer and rapper says that the pressure on him to release something good has only made him feel more ambitious to do something “great.”

“I’m aware of how loud that conversation will be when I drop it, which makes me hyper aware of how great it has to be,” MGK told Complex when asked about his upcoming return to rap music.
He went on to say, “I’m also far removed from ego and the urge to fit in. I know I have to sonically make something that is out of the now and forever. That means no disguising with 808s or the usual tricks used in rap over the past ten years. I have to make something I can stand on.”
According to MGK, he’s not concerned about people who might reject his shift back into rap after leaving the genre.
“Undeniably, in the fine print on the internet, my freestyles, my features, my constant glorification of hip-hop have always been there. If they choose to be loud about it, know that it makes me better. That makes me hungrier. And a hungry MGK is a dangerous MGK,” he said.
If you missed it, MGK thinks he might be an alien.
