‘Match Game’ Reboot Finds New Host in ‘Only Murders in the Building’ Star
The new version of Match Game just got itself a fancy new host. Martin Short has been selected as the next star who will take contestants to the limit for ABC. The premise of the show features two participants as they attempt to take home a $25,000 cash prize. In order to walk away with the money, players have to match what the panel of celebrity guests are going to say in a variety of fill-the-blank dynamics. Whenever the participants do say the same thing as their celebrity counterparts, they’re able to go home with an unpredictable amount of valuable rewards.
Alec Baldwin was the last person to take on the challenge of hosting Match Game during ABC’s sucessful reboot from several years ago. The actor has since been involved in a heavy controversy due to a fatal accident that took place on the set of his upcoming film Rust. Before that, the performer constantly appeared on Saturday Night Live in a series of political sketches. That iteration of Match Game ran over the course of five seasons. When it was time for the series to come to a close, ABC moved on to different projects. It’s time for one of the most popular game shows in television history to return to the screen.
Martin Short will host Match Game after a very busy couple of years. The performer will return to his role of Oliver Putnam in the next season of Only Murders in the Building. The successful Hulu comedy follows a group of amateur investigators as they trace killers in the heart of New York City. The next installment of the show will reunite audiences with Oliver, Charles (Steve Martin) and Mabel (Selena Gomez), as the group tracks down the person who killed one of their closest companions.
The Previous Hosts of ‘Match Game’
Martin Short will be joining an extensive legacy when he becomes the next host of Match Game. Before the Only Murders in the Building star was selected to be in the spotlight, the competition program was hosted by people such as Gene Rayburn and Ross Shafer. Taking into account how the concept of Match Game was introduced in 1962, it’s important to point out that the show has changed in many different ways since then. The original network that kept viewers on the edge of their seats with Match Game was NBC. ABC took over around 1990, allowing viewers to fall in love with this competition once again.
