New Instagram Timer Symbol on Stories: What Does It Mean?

Instagram has been rolling out a new “timer” symbol on Instagram Stories over the past few months and you might notice it pop up on your app. So, what does it mean?

The timer or clock symbol will sometimes appear on the bottom-right corner of the story bubble of someone you follow.

While there doesn’t appear to be any official information about the symbol being introduced to the app, we’ve figured out the meaning.

The timer symbol is an “expiring soon” warning.

It’s there to warn you that a user’s story is about to hit the 24-hour limit and is about to disappear. If you see this symbol pop up, you know that you should click in to watch the story before it goes away.

The timer doesn’t appear on every story that is expiring soon though, so it’s unclear how Instagram is rolling out the feature.
