Síomha Ní Ruairc is embracing every moment of her pregnancy, and that includes her thoughtful take on whether to find out her baby’s gender.

Yes, this week, the presenter annouced that she is expecting her first child with husband Cathal Pendred.

The news comes one year after the couple tied the knot at a lavish ceremony in Lough Eske Castle in Co. Donegal.

Sharing the announcement post on Instagram, Síomha wrote: “Leanbh nua ag teacht ar an saol mí Eanáir 2026,” which translates into “New baby coming into the world in January 2026.”

Now, however, she’s sharing her perspective on whether or not to find out her baby’s gender.

Speaking during her regular segment on Ireland AM alongside Alan Hughes, the TV star explained why she and Cathal have decided to keep the baby’s sex a surprise — and their reasoning is both personal and meaningful.

“You can Google anything in the world, but I can’t Google what’s in my womb,” she thoughtfully quipped.

She also touched on how different Christmas will look for her this year, adding, “I’m due in January, so I should be around here until Christmas time.

“It’ll be a very different Christmas for me this year!”

Taking to her Instagram story after the show, Síomha then thanked the viewers and her followers for all their support.

“GRMA for all the lovely messages – even though some of ye were on to me – those of you with eagle eyes and a sixth sense.

“We’re delighted, it’s come at a lovely time. We absolutely know how fortunate we are, too.”
