Trump White House Blasts Amazon’s Reported Plans to List Cost of Tariffs on Products a ‘Hostile and Political Act’

Amazon is reportedly planning to display the cost of President Trump’s tariffs on products the ecommerce giant sells — drawing an immediate condemnation from the White House.

At a press briefing Tuesday falling on the 100th day in Trump’s second term, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt lambasted Amazon’s reported plans. “This is a hostile and political act by Amazon,” she said. “Why didn’t Amazon do this when the Biden administration hiked inflation to the highest level in 40 years?”

Amazon did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

According to an unconfirmed report by political news outlet Punchbowl News, Amazon “doesn’t want to shoulder the blame for the cost of President Donald Trump’s trade war.” Citing an anonymous source, the report said Amazon will soon show “how much of an item’s cost is derived from tariffs – right next to the product’s total listed price.”

During Tuesday’s briefing, Leavitt and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent were asked by a reporter whether they agreed that Amazon’s reported move to list the cost of tariffs was a “crystal-clear demonstration” that American consumers — not Chinese companies — will have to “pay for these policies.” Leavitt said she responded to the question because she “just got off the phone with the president about Amazon’s announcement.”
