Twiggy Recalls the Moment She Put Woody Allen ‘in His Place” During a Famous Early Interview – Closer Weekly | Closer Weekly

At 76, fashion icon Twiggy is looking back on the moment she realized she could hold her own — even with the most intimidating interviewers.

Speaking to The Telegraph in a Monday, February 16 interview, Twiggy shared that during the height of her ’60s fame, she fielded endless variations of the same questions about her name and what she ate to keep her super slender frame. But one particular exchange caught her off guard — and ultimately became a turning point.

Per the Daily Mail, the supermodel recalled when she was a teenager, Woody Allen, now 90, attempted to throw her off with a pointed, patronizing line of questioning during a 1967 TV interview when he asked the young model to name her favorite philosopher. Twiggy pushed back. “I haven’t got one,” she recalls telling Allen.  “Who’s yours?”

After Allen told her he “likes all of them,” Twiggy shot back: “I don’t know their names, though. What are their names?”

The moment still resonates for her today, 58 years later.

“I put him in his place,” she explained, per Daily Mail, noting that confidence was something she learned on the job, not something she arrived with.

“If I was the age he was there, in my 30s,” she told The Guardian, during a 2025 interview, “I would never have behaved like that towards someone who was only 17.”
