‘Wayward’ Debuts At No. 1 On Netflix’s Weekly English TV List; ‘Kpop Demon Hunters’ Clears Yet Another Milestone
Mae Martin’s psychological mystery Wayward landed atop Netflix‘s English TV charts in its opening week, putting up 8.2M views in its first few days of streaming.
The series, which debuted on September 25, put up a decent showing in its opening weekend, though it remains to be seen whether it’ll continue to grow. It is notable, though, that Wayward climbed past Black Rabbit, which premiered the week prior to 6.6M views. From September 22 to 28, the Jude Law and Jason Bateman starrer Black Rabbit inched upward to 7M views, maintaining second place on the weekly charts.
While last week Wednesday Season 2 remained at No. 1, this interval saw the latest installment drop to fourth place with 4.4M views, nearly cutting its viewership in half from the week prior. This isn’t necessarily surprising, given that the last four episodes of the season were released September 3, meaning most eager audiences are likely to have caught up by now. The latest weekly total did boost Wednesday Season 2 to No. 7 on the all-time most popular list, totaling 107M views since the first four episodes dropped.
Since the premiere interval reset with the release of the new batch of episodes, there are still 64 days left in Season 2’s window to continue climbing on the most popular list. It is highly unlikely that it will touch its predecessor, which remains in the No. 1 spot with 252M views, but Season 2 will probably move a few spots higher since it only needs about 8M more views to clear the next three spots (which are currently held by Dahmer, Bridgerton Season 1, and The Queen’s Gambit).
Third place on the English-language TV charts went to House of Guinness, a historical drama series created by Peaky Blinders‘ Steven Knight, which debuted with 5.2M views.
KPop Demon Hunters reached yet another milestone last week, becoming Netflix’s longest-running English film title to remain in the Top 10. And it hasn’t just remained in the Top 10, it has dominated. The film put up another 19.3M views during this interval across both the original version and the singalong version, putting even more distance between it and the rest of the most popular list (Kpop took the No. 1 spot at the end of August).
